First Sunday Ride: Ghati Subhramanya – Nandi Hills

Another sunday, another ride.  It was the first sunday of the month and as a part of First Sunday Ride, we were off to Ghati Subhramanya in Doddaballapur district.

We reached the start point, Mekhri Circle, to find an assortment of bikes ready to go on the ride; beemers, bullets and RDs.  After a round of refreshing Chai, the bunch hit the road. We took the Hebbal-Yelahanka route and headed towards Doddaballapur.  One of the RDs had a flat tyre, so a few stayed back to get it fixed and the rest of us moved on. It was a bumpy ride to the breakfast point since the roads were lousy. Pot hole ridden and dusty, the road at quite a few places had absolutely no tarmac, and Abhi had to just get off the road at these places at which point I was thankful that I was completely protected from head to toe, including my new Joe Rocket leather  mesh gloves . But then, thats the fun part about riding isn’t it?

We had Idlis for breakfast at Ganesh Darshan opposite to Doddaballapur railway station and after a few snaps continued on our way to Ghati.  We did a couple of stops on the way to check with the locals about the route and also did a bit of off-roading! At this point, Abhi warned me that the back brake on the bike was jamming, and to be prepared to get off, in case the bike decides to do a bit of an off-roading on its own! he he! We reached the temple without much hassle after that, and then Santosh told us that we were to head towards Nandi Hills from there! I have been to Nandi hills a couple of times previously, but never on the bike.  The moment I got to know about this, I was thrilled, because I knew Abhi would rip.  After a brief tender-coconut-water stop, we started uphill.  Hot sun, cool breeze, beautiful view and two of us on the speeding bullet..Oh! what fun it was! 🙂

Route from Bangalore to Nandi Hills including a picture of the climb is here.

Relaxed for a couple of hours under the eucalyptus trees in at the base of the hills, listened to some biker talk and took a few snaps.  We were to head to a friend’s (Bharath’s) farmhouse near Devappana Gudi, off Devanahalli. Abhi got a call from his mech, Yousuf, who was to test his Drag bike on NH-7 near Devanahalli. The bike, a little RX135 (drag spec) was impressive and so was the old man with his amazing enthusiasm.  I was told his launch was near perfect and the bike was in good condition, fit for a Drag race. (Editor: Removed the specifications of the race engine from here) I know now why Abhi trusts this man with his motorcycles.. Good job Yousuf!

With my ears still ringing due to the noise from the drag bike, we got the predecided regrouping point, and from there the bunch headed towards the farmhouse. Since we dint know the way to the place, a few of us got lost, and after a lot of asking around, finally managed to get to the place. The farm was breezy and was apt for lazing around after a ride in the hot afternoon sun. Sipping a cool cucumber drink, I waited eagerly for lunch. The aroma of mutton curry and the sound of the pressure cooker increased my hunger 😀 and the meal was fantastic… thanks! Spicy but tasty! The food rejuvenated us and then it was time to head home.
